THE ULTIMATE BLUE MOUNTAIN COFFEE ESTATE TOUR

Clifton Mount Estate and Old Tavern Blue Mountain Coffee Estate
Clifton Mount is one of the oldest and finest Blue Mountain Coffee Estates in Jamaica, and the largest exporter of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee by a privately owned
company. The old Clifton Mount Estate Great House is one of very few surviving 19th century Coffee Great Houses left. Hear the fascinating Clifton Mount story and walk the
farm, which also grows tropical flowers commercially. Relax in the garden, surrounded by wildly spectacular views, with a delicious picnic lunch and a cup of the world's most
prized coffee. Drive through the historic 19th century army base, Newcastle, today used by the Jamaica Defense Force as a rest station and training camp.
The Old Tavern Blue Mountain Coffee Estate grows and processes exceptional Blue Mountain Coffee. Dorothy Twyman and her son David are Jamaica’s artisan roasters,
and their unique roasting process is on show at the Old Tavern. A selection of Blue Mountain Coffee Beans, including Peaberry and a variety of roasts, are available for
purchase.

BIRDING IN THE BLUE MOUNTAINS

Jamaica is among the best island destinations in the world for bird watching, and bird watching is one of the fastest growing obsessions in the world. 307 birds have been
recorded here, including 127 breeding species and 180 migrants. 28 species are endemic, more than any other West Indian island. Most of Jamaica’s endemics can be found
in wooded areas, gardens and roadsides of the stunningly beautiful Blue Mountains. Venturing out to look for and listen to birds is both relaxing and enriching. All you need is a
pair of binoculars, a field guide, and willingness to be peaceful and observe. Relish the dawn chorus and haunting flute-like call of the Rufous-throated Solitaire symbiotic to
the Blue Mountains. Look for bird species such as Arrowhead Warbler, White-eyed Thrush, Jamaican Becard, Blue Mountain Vireo, Crested Quail Dove, hummingbirds and
the Jamaican Tody.

GORDON TOWN TRAIL

The trail is the old parochial road still used by residents who live along the path. Follow the Hope River downhill, crossing bridges taking you back and forth across the
river. Waterfalls and pools all along the way provide many swimming opportunities. Shaded for the most part, the trail is cool and follows the constant sound of running water.
There are small farms growing coffee and pineapples along the way. Pass one enormous centuries-old Cotton Tree with an amazing root system a grown man is easily
dwarfed by. Bird lovers will be delighted by sporadic melodies and occasional sightings. Half way down, pass through the little village of Mount and swim beside the
community waterfall.

SETTLEMENT HIKING TRAIL

This is a walk along a mostly-uphill public pedestrian trail, through lovely landscapes and spectacular views of Jamaica’s breathtaking Blue Mountains. Pass small coffee
farms, cross footbridges along the Hope River, transcend through various rural communities, and at the top of the trail find Bubbles Bar and Cook Shop, one option for a local
cooked lunch. Proceed to Cold Spring Heritage Gardens – a historical property lovingly restored and featuring remnants of a 19th century coffee pulpery.

CINCHONA BOTANICAL GARDENS

The closest place to ‘heaven’ at 5200ft above sea level, Cinchona Botanical Gardens is the most exotic garden in the Caribbean. Cinchona Gardens was established in 1868
as a botanic research station, and there was great interest in the Cinchona plant which was highly prized for it’s medicinal properties in the treatment of malaria. Cinchona still
exhibits beauty and grandeur; some Cinchona trees remain, along with several species of Eucalyptus, Japanese Cedar, Weeping Cypress, Rubber and Camphor trees. There
are beautiful flower displays of orchids, agapanthus, lilies, roses and azaleas. A tunnel of Holland bamboo is delightful, and the views in every direction are absolutely
spectacular!
